Venue: Live Fact
Address: 33-2, Plaza Danau 2, Jalan 4/109F, Taman Danau Desa 58100 Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
Presented by Live Fact and Urbanscapes 2016, Damn Dirty Apes (DDA) are known as the first post-rock of Malaysia and credited for influencing a slew of new generation of rockers. They released their debut “Valve State Dreams” in 2002 with an overwhelming response. The single “Charlie” was on heavy rotation on the airwaves and the EP had sold more than 5000 units in less than 6 months. They performed on “Rock the world 3” (2002) and the inaugural launch of Urbanscapes.
The second release “Ape Kill Ape” (2004) was rather low key since most members had disbanded and left the country. They still managed to perform at the second Urbanscapes and sold out the first print of the album. In 2006, sole original member Pedram Djavadkhani enlisted new members to continue. They performed “Rock the world 7” and Urbanscapes (2006 & 2010) but kept a low profile.
2012 had become a pivotal year for the band. With a new bass player on hand, they introduced themselves to the world again playing at the sold out Mull: Debauch to KL 2, Rock the World 2012 and they also had the honour of headlining Mull: Debauch to KL 3.
They are currently working on the new album.
Support act for the night are Deepset, another instrumental mainstay in the Malaysian indie music scene. Deepset is the modern day tale of music with a sensibility that touches the core of human values. Capturing the heartfelt emotions portrayed in day-to-day trials & tribulations of life, Deepset is the soundscape that taps the back of our senses with a definite resonance on what is actually happening around us, an aural creation that incorporates our knowledge, experience and the state of mind we’re in, and lets the listener display his truest feelings.Influenced by the harmonic and sonic experimentation of independent rock/shoegaze bands of the ’90s, began exploring and experimenting with instrumental sound projects, culminating in the release of a 3 track demo in 2005.
Having played at several independent performances in and around Kuala Lumpur, Deepset has grown a strong following and added to the burgeoning Malaysian music scene with their debut full-length “The Lights We Shed Shall Burn Your Eyes” in August 2008, released on KittyWu Records.
